about
“Images & Sensations is shaped largely by the theme of dreaming. Specifically daydreams, lucid dreams, fever dreams and the sensations that these evoke, such as feelings of disconcertion, deja vu, nostalgia and deciphering what is (un)real.” - Ellen King
Feeding into this theme, the composition references particular phenomenons that have become increasingly more popular in recent years surrounding topics such as meditation, mindfulness and ASMR. These are explored sonically via instrumentation (e.g. singing bowl, rainstick, sub-bass, white noise), extended technique, instrument preparations, diverse textures and slow deliberate tempos to create hypnotic pulses and atmospheres that develop gradually throughout the piece from icy to affable.
The initial ideas for Images & Sensations were originally conceived in the etchings of a DJ mix of the same name for c- platform in early 2020. The composition for Crash Ensemble was subsequently written in the lockdown period that followed from late 2020 to early 2021.
Crash are extremely proud to present our latest EP ‘Images & Sensations’ by Irish producer and DJ Ellen King (ELLLL), a live recording from our world premiere at New Music Dublin 2021. This is the 4th EP released on Crash Records.
Images & Sensations is a Crash Ensemble and New Music Dublin commission from Irish producer and DJ Ellen King (ELLLL) and was premiered at New Music Dublin 2021.
